We got a call about 6 weeks ago informing us that our images from Hanna and Bobby’s Engagement Party were being featured in At Home Tennessee magazine’s January 2010 issue. Upon hearing this it is safe to say we were just as excited as Hanna was! We waited the whole month of January checking the magazine racks and finally found the new issue.

If you missed the Hanna and Bobby’s Engagement Post check it out here.

Epictetus was a Stoic Philosopher that lived approximately c.55-c.135 A.D. Here is a quote I came across I thought interesting…
“What is the first business of one who studies philosophy? To part with self-conceit. For it is impossible for any one to begin to learn what he thinks that he already knows.”
Epictetus – How to apply general Principles to particular Cases. Chap. xvii.
My first inclination was to substitute “philosophy” with “photography” or “wedding photography” and see if the quote still applied. I would argue that it could, as it would with just about any subject you substitute. I know we are taking one line out of an entire chapter, but I suppose that with my simplistic reasoning I find it interesting that Epictetus is telling us to approach everything by first unlearning what we know so we may be open enough to learn that which we desire to learn.
Here is a link to the chapter How to apply general principles to particular cases. If you require further reading.
What do you desire?
Let me know your take on this Epicetus quote, Comment! Or if you like it share it!

A few months back Laura & Jim won an engagement session with us at the Adornments Grand Reopening, as it turned out they were getting married that weekend, so we decided to do a Lifestyle/After Session with them instead. Since they are big movie buffs and so am I, we went with a spy theme for the shoot (my personal favorite). Okay, I didn’t keep it 100% spy themed but mostly. We had a great time and they were good sports to brave the cold last month! Here are some images from the session!

This last one I could decide if I liked the B&W or Color version. Which one so you prefer? Leave a comment with your preference!

- What a fun shoot! I like the b&w :)
- Thanks Mindy! I think I like the B&W better, now that i've come to look at it again.
- what a great concept. This is awesome. I love the B&W. Great work!

I am a Huge U2 fan! Actually both Michelle and I are. I get a lot of my inspiration from their music and lyrics. “The Fly” is a huge one for me… so many quotable lyrics. I actually did a series from this whilst in school, maybe I’ll post it one day.
What inspires you? More importantly… what does it move you to do?
Check out some of my U2 pics.

- So cool! Love this one!
I had the great opportunity to meet Justin and Mary Marantz and attend their “Spread the Love” workshop earlier this month. In a nutshell they are about balancing all of the aspects of our lives so we can truly love the work we do and create wonderful experiences for our clients. Michelle and I are big fans of an amazing experience, whether an adventure to the local farmers market, honeymooning in Austria, or perhaps the most gratifying for us… being able to touch the lives of others. Check out their blog post about the Nashville “Spread the Love” stop.
