Your photography session is important to us. We want to insure that each session goes as smoothly and efficiently as possible. We want to maximize your time and ours. This is why we meet all of our clients before the session for a consult over drinks or coffee. The consult allows us to get to know you, plan your session, and go over any questions, besides who doesn’t like a cup of coffee or a drink?.
Here are a few tips and hints to prepare you for your session:
- Have fun! Go against the grain! Play dress up! Wear clothes that match your personality. So unless you are cheesy, don’t wear matching outfits. Also, unless it’s a concept shot, avoid bold strips and patterns. Portraits are supposed to capture your likeness and describe who YOU are.
- Bring comfortable clothes that you feel and look great in! So if you never wear it, don’t bring it! Most people are not used to being in front of the camera, so we want you to wear clothes that you feel good in and that fit well. Bring 5-6 outfits we can help narrow to the best ones for your shoot (setting, skin tones,etc.). And don’t for get to accessorize! Hats, jackets, umbrellas, personal items, toys or other props give us more options for great shots.
- Clean, and Iron or Press your clothes. Don’t bring dirty, ragged or stained clothes. When we say comfortable, we don’t mean your favorite holey sweatpants with “juicy” on the butt. Yeah, George, I’m talking to you!
- DON”T get a haircut, botox, tan, plastic surgery, or do anything else within 3 or 4 days before your session! WE WILL NOT SPEND 8 HOURS TRYING TO FIX YOUR IMAGES IN PHOTOSHOP! We try to do everything we can in camera and use Photoshop as a tool were necessary. We can only work with what you bring us. If you don’t like your clothes, makeup or hair, you won’t be pleased with your images. We want you happy!
- Do you have a specific look or feel your going for? Tell us about it when we do our consult. We encourage clients to bring examples from magazines, sketches, books, clothing, even screen shots from movies! If you have older photos from previous sessions, bring them along too! Especially if you didn’t like them, we want to see what the fuss is about! We love to get a sense of your style. It helps us create a more personal experience that blends with our style.
- Let us know about your likes and dislikes about yourself. This helps us photograph you so we can emphasize your assets.
- Location,Location, Location! Again, the setting of your images helps to tell the story. Depending on the session, we can use a location that has a special meaning to you, is just plain cool, or tells the story in a unique way. Please share your ideas, we love to shoot in really cool places, so if your uncle has access to a submarine, let us know!
- Bring your Favorite music, and bring a friend. Music and friends make for fun and a more relaxed session! Otherwise we will have to use sock puppets and bad bubblegum pop music from the 90’s.
Makeup Artists/ Hairstylists/Image and Wardrobe Consultants
We highly recommend having your hair and makeup done by a professional before your session. For Artist/Model and Bridal sessions, we recommend having a Makeup/Hairstyles on location. For Artist/Model sessions, we also recommend a Image and Wardrobe Consultant. We tend to do multiple outfits and end up with several different looks. If you don’t have anyone, we make recommendations. If you do your own makeup, mineral makeup photographs best, and bring some along for touch-ups. Especially if we are recreating a scene from Rambo II.
